Why Kiko Goats

Kiko goats were developed to thrive in challenging environments while maintaining strong growth and maternal performance.

At Wildflower Acres Farm we chose to raise Kiko goats because they offer many advantages for producers seeking hardy, low-maintenance animals.

Developed for Performance

The Kiko breed was originally developed in New Zealand through a careful selection process that emphasized hardiness, fertility, and survivability. Rather than focusing on appearance alone, the breed was developed by selecting goats that could perform well under natural grazing conditions. This emphasis on performance continues to make Kiko goats popular with producers around the world.

Parasite Resistance

One of the most valuable characteristics of Kiko goats is their natural parasite resistance.

Internal parasites are a major challenge for goat producers, particularly in warm and humid climates like the southeastern United States. Kiko goats have developed a reputation for maintaining productivity under parasite pressure, which can reduce the need for frequent deworming and other interventions.

Strong Maternal Ability

Kiko does are widely recognized for their excellent maternal instincts.

They typically:

  • kid easily
  • produce adequate milk
  • raise vigorous kids
  • protect and care for their offspring well

These traits contribute to higher kid survival rates and reduced labor requirements for producers.

Efficient Pasture Performance

Kiko goats are known for their ability to maintain body condition and raise kids while grazing pasture and browse.

This efficiency makes them well suited for producers who want to:

  • reduce feed costs
  • rely more heavily on forage
  • operate lower-input production systems

Adaptability

Kiko goats have proven to be adaptable to a wide range of climates and production systems.

Their hardiness allows them to perform well in environments where other breeds may struggle, including areas with:

  • heat and humidity
  • parasite pressure
  • variable forage conditions

A Practical Choice for Producers

For many farmers and ranchers, Kiko goats offer a balance of productivity, durability, and efficiency. hese characteristics make them an excellent choice for producers seeking goats that can thrive with practical, pasture-based management.

Wildflower Acres Farm raises registered Kiko goats for sale in Florida and serves goat producers throughout the Southeast.
